During the last few months, I had the good fortune to view some great films of Waheeda Rahman with Guru Dutt and of SuchitraSen., thanks to Tommydan55 .

Excellent subtitles and clear prints.

Before that I had not seen many Bengali films, excapt those directed by Ray, Tapan Sinha and Mrinal Sen.

Then I searched for All the films of Suchitra Sen . I was completely captivated by her.I have seen almost all her 55 bengali films..

It led me to create an exclusuve website.

The films almost always with Uttam Kumar from 1954 when she was 23 and upto 1960 (age 29) . were superb.

What struck me was her lovely and expressive eyes.

Ofcourse, she had a beautiful and unique face profile and slender figure which she maintained almost through her career. and life.

There is a quite dignity in her. , film after fllm, be it Bengali or Hindi.

Unlike any other actress, her sartorial code was impeccable . I suppose, it is fully native to Bengal.culture.

She was already married and a mother when she entered the film world in 1952 when she was 21.

In most of the films from 1954 to 1960, Uttam Kumar was the co-actor and there were zero scenes of physical Intimacy, though romance there was in plenty, but mostly tender and sentimental.

She never danced in any of hér films.

In films like Ekthi Rath and Rajalakshmi, she was in full finery and jewellery but almost in all her films, she wore no jewels. Always clad in neatly draped sari., she was the very picture of simple elegance.

Uttam seemed to respect her in all the films.

She could sing too.

She was the best actress to portray the like of Indira.

The only film in which she laughed heartily was in

Sath pakhe bandha which was however a tragic film.

Truly the most precious. Jewel of Indian cenema.

This 1953 film marks the first pairing of Suchitra Sen with Uttam Kumar.

And they aren't even the stars. Instead, they're part of a large ensemble cast coming together to make a rollicking comedy. The Encyclopedia of Indian Cinema has this to say about Sare Chuattar:

An early example of a Kumar-Sen romance of star-crossed lovers. Mahendra (Kumar) belongsto a family of musicians cursed because anancestor once humiliated his guru (shown inthe film’s opening sequence). Mahendra’s elder brother Debendra (Sanyal) became blind andto avoid the same fate, Mahendra promises to abandon the family vocation and moves to Calcutta to live with the rich Umeshchandra

(Mitra), whose daughter Madhuri (Sen) tries to make a bourgeois gentleman out of him.

However, the impecunious Mahendra sees himself forced to return to music and he vents his anger at urban values with the film’s hit song Suno bandhu suno (sung by HemantaMukherjee). The curse strikes and he falls dangerously ill, but is rescued by a now-chastened Madhuri.
